Based on Austria’s membership in the European Union, the Federal Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, Reforms, Deregulation and Justice contributes to the European Union’s legislative process.
Furthermore, the ministry is involved in legal collaboration with organisations on an international level. This includes the United Nations, the Hague Conference on Private International Law, or the Council of Europe.
The Federal Ministry of Constitutional Affairs, Reforms, Deregulation and Justice participates in the Council of Europe’s initiatives in criminal and penal law. These initiatives go beyond conventional collaboration amongst neighbouring states and aim for standardisation of multinational legal instruments, simplification of legal assistance, improvement of judicial collaboration, implementation of reforms, and fight against human trafficking. Another initiative is facilitation of prisoner transfer to their home states in order to enforce their sentence and to ensure improved social rehabilitation.
